Sojourn

Program Note: Sojourn is an uplifting concert overture intended to induce the feeling of a long journey that has not begun yet. I have done a lot of reading recently, and became inspired by the beginning of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.

This novel begins with a large party that is very joyful for everyone involved (sans Bilbo Baggins himself), as a precursor to the huge adventure that the rest of The Hobbit holds. This concept of a last hurrah while preparing for a journey is what inspired Sojourn.
